Tip 2.1: Installing Printer Drivers

Trying to print but your computer doesn’t seem to recognize you have a printer? Your computer may be having problems locating your printer driver.

What are printer drivers?

Printer drivers are programs developed to translate the language of an application to a language the printer can understand such as Postscript, PCL, or Windows Printing System. You must have a driver installed to print.

Printer drivers also allow users to manipulate settings that effect the output of the printer. The type of settings vary from product to product and may include paper handling, tray selections, and font.

How do I locate and/or install my printer driver?

You many need to reinstall your printer driver. Do you still have the disk? If not, go to the manufacturer’s Web site and download the application online.
