A secretary, a paralegal and a partner in a big law firm are walking through a park on their way to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp.  They rub it and a genie comes out in a puff of smoke.  The Genie says, "I usually only grant three wishes, so I'll give each of you just one."  "Me first!  Me first!" says the secretary.  "I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world."  Poof!  She's gone.  "Me next!  Me next!" says the paralegal.  "I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of pina coladas and the love of my life."  Poof!  She's gone.  "You're next," the genie says turning to the partner.  The partner replies, "I want those two back in the office right after lunch."

This month's Tech Tip concerns properly shutting down your computer.  To do this, simply click on the Start button on the lower left-hand side of your screen and choose Shut Down from the pop-up menu.  Shutting your computer down any other way can cause two main problems to occur.  First, it can cause your operating system (Windows95 or 98 for example) to become corrupt over time.  This result can produce numerous errors, such as

"illegal operation" errors or lock-ups.  Second, if programs are running when the computer is shut down improperly, data files can be lost or become corrupt.  By properly shutting down your computer, you will be prompted to save any open files before the operating system shuts down programs that are running.  If you have any questions regarding this information, please refer to the Contact Us section.
